Bootcamping Error!

Meng-install Windows di Mac dengan menggunakan Bootcamp Assistant harusnya bukan hal yang sulit. Tinggal download manual PDF-nya dari website Apple dan ikuti instruksi step-by-step-nya, seharusnya bisa beres dalam 45 menit -1 jam saja. Namun bukannya tidak mungkin ada hal-hal di luar perkiraan sehingga pekerjaan yang harusnya mudah itu bisa membuat pusing dan menguras energi. :(

Seperti ketika kemarin mencoba menggunakan Bootcamp untuk meng-install Windows XP di Macbook, saya mendapatkan pesan error seperti ini:

Uploading Photo to Facebook

Here are some tips to get the best results when uploading photos to Facebook:

1. 600×400 pixel, hires.

By default Facebook limits the photos to max 600×400 pixels. This means that if you upload photo bigger than 600×400pixels, Facebook uploader will automatically resize it to 600×400 pixels. The bad news is that Facebook uploader system is not as good as - for examples - Flickr or Picasa photo uploader. The result is the blurry and low quality of uploaded photo. :( So, what can we do about it?

Running Chrome OS on Virtual Box

After several failures to run Chrome OS on VMWare Fusion in my Macbook, I finally gave up and try Virtual Box on my XP instead (using the same vmdk file downloaded from GDGT). Using practically the standard settings, it works smoothly! – This post was actually started by logging in from Chrome OS. :)

So how’s Chrome OS looks like (and feels like)? At this early stage, I think it’s too early to tell (or judge) the whole experience. It just feels like.. well, using Chrome (browser). :) but with quick login and additional (home?) icon on the taskbar to open other applications.

Google Chrome OS: Angin Segar yang Membuat Gerah.

Wow! Belum genap satu hari sejak Google mempublikasikan secara resmi sistem operasi (Operating System/OS) buatan mereka: Chrome OS, sudah ada 2 website yang mengulas dan memvonis bahwa Chrome OS akan gagal!

PCWorld dan Computerworld, memuat artikel dengan judul “Google Chrome OS Will Fail: Here are the Fatal Flaws”. Artikel yang ditulis oleh penulis yang sama tersebut (di kedua website, isi artikelnya adalah sama persis), mengungkapkan 3 faktor utama (cikal bakal) kegagalan Chrome OS: Sistem yang akan bermasalah karena didasarkan pada arsitektur Linux, interface yang ‘biasa2 saja’ dan kemustahilannya mengubah paradigma pengguna sistem operasi desktop (terutama Windows).

Bagi saya tulisan itu menarik karena secara tersirat seolah-olah ada semacam ‘aura’ pembelaan terhadap Microsoft (Windows). Bila saya perhatikan, isi PCWorld dan Computerworld selama ini memang cenderung agak-agak ‘pro Microsoft’. Di sisi lain Google disinyalir memang berambisi menyaingi (bila tidak bisa disebut menumbangkan) dominasi Microsoft dengan Windowsnya, terutama di pasaran pengguna netbook. Mulai dari perseteruan mereka di beberapa produk seperti sistem pencarian online (search engine) dan layanan online (email, instant messaging) sampai ke ‘tantangan’ Google Docs untuk menggantikan Microsoft Office.
