The ‘New’ Webstandard?
June 15th, 2006Recently, approching a prospective client I suggested their website made in webstandard. That is of XHTML and CSS layout stuff. Here’s part of the conversation:
Client (C): Hummm… nice concept. Will it do any good for our website? Compare to, what.. table layout? The visual appearance maybe?
Me (M): Well the visual will practically the same. (With thought in mind that hopefully I can figure out the “stick to the bottom footer” thing easily). But there are many technical advantages to it. For example it will be cross-browser compatible.
C: Cross browser?
M: Yes. It can be viewed correctly in any browsers. (Hoping that they won’t notice the 1 or 2 pixels differences in IE).
C: Any browsers? We use Internet Explorer here.
M: Umm.. well, mostly. But actually not all.. say IE4 or older Netscape probably won’t display it correctly. But your web will be accessible through wider range of devices such as mobile phone and PDA.
(He looks hesitant. Interested yet not sure at the same time)
